What's your Denim Culture?
Denims have long since been deemed irreplaceable, non-expendable, and in other words, an absolutely essential part of any woman’s wardrobe. Having said that, there are still a myriad varieties of jeans out there, and different women prefer different types. We’ve taken four of most popular types of denims for women and looked at the kind of personalities, lifestyles, and events that they’re most suited for. You might fit neatly into one kind or find that you tend to move between denim types from one day to the next; but then that’s probably half the fun, right? So, read on, and find out what your denim culture is!
Skinny Jeans
Skinnies are sleek, fitted, and chic. If you’re the kind of girl who likes to stay suitably glam while keeping things fresh and clean cut, this is the pair of denims you find yourself picking out of your closet most often.
Pair them with: Casual tees and ballet flats for a casual day look; or a slinky party top with heels for an evening out on town.
USP: Versatility
Boyfriend Jeans
These are jeans you could live in. Literally. Loose and comfy, they’re the denims to go to if you’re really feeling like going for a dressed down look. Of course, dressed down doesn’t necessarily have to translate to sloppy. So, get yourself a nicely tailored pair that fits well, roll up the bottoms, throw on your favourite shirt, and you’re good to go.
Pair them with: A basic shirt (whites look divine!) and brogues or loafers.
USP: Comfort
Coloured Jeans
Fun, with a capital F is what coloured jeans are all about. They keep things casual, but with a little more spunk than plain-vanilla blue jeans. Teal, Navy, Peach, and Red, are the safest colours to work with, but since you’re probably in the mood to have a little fun with your wardrobe when you pick these, don’t restrict yourself to those four shades.
Pair them with: Toned down tops, footwear and accessories. You could also try colour blocking, by wearing a plain top in a contrasting colour.
USP: Fun
Printed Jeans
Drama-queen. Ok, we’re kidding, but these jeans are bold and will definitely add more drama to a look than most other kinds of denims would. You’d be spoilt for choice while picking though; you could try anything from denims with floral prints or Shibori to denims with animal prints. Pick one based on your comfort level with this trend.
Pair them with: These are very similar to coloured jeans – keep everything else subtle. Mixing prints can look very avant-garde when done right, but that’s a path best tread with care.
USP: Drama
When the earlier version of the Google Nexus 7launched, it was in a market dominated by expensive 10 inch tablets. The 7 inch, lower-priced Nexus was a welcome product to many price conscious users. The second generation Nexus 7 takes all the positives from its predecessor and fine tunes them, giving you a device that is lighter, slimmer, and more powerful than the previous model. However, with its 16 GB variant priced at around Rs.15000, it’s also more expensive than the older model. To help decide if the newer device is worth the premium, let’s take a closer look at what it has to offer.
In terms of what meets the eye, the new Nexus 7 is sleeker and lighter than the older version, with a slimmer frame that does away with the dimpled rubberized back, opting instead for a plain matte skin. While the matte plastic finish does not feel premium, it’s better at resisting scratches and fingerprints. This, along with a slightly narrow bezel along the vertical edges of the screen, and the removal of the faux metal edging from the older design, makes the second gen Nexus 7 a more compact device that is easier to both grip and carry around in comparison to the older edition.
Under the hood, the second generation Google Nexus 7 is powered by a 1.5 GHZ quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and a 2GB RAM. While the battery sees an upgrade as well, its power is sapped in equal measure by the newer edition’s upgraded components. However, the device still has decent battery life.
The features that stand out most in the Google Nexus 7 are its display and sound quality. The device’s 1920x1200 IPS display is definitely better than most other tablets with comparable screen sizes. The screen also displays a wider gamut of colours and has more accurate colour reproduction capabilities. It’s a joy to view images and watch videos on this device. This is supported by the tab’s stereo sound, another improvement over the older model. The tablet’s speakers have better sound quality and range than their predecessors’. However, the missing microSD slot prevents you from storing as much media as you’d probably like to on this device. You’ll find yourself limited to 16GB or 32GB of memory space, depending on which variant you're using. The Nexus 7’s pure-play Android OS, which is an improvement over the OEM skins seen in tablets from other manufacturers, is a definite plus, making the tablet rank much higher on usability than several competitors in the price range. The device’s 5 MP camera (sans LED flash) performs reasonably well. But, it’s nothing to write home about. Colour reproduction and low-light performance are average at best. However, this is offset slightly by the camera app that has several useful features that give you more control on the pictures you take.
There’s nothing as relaxing as a hot shower or a nice, long soak in the bath tub. It’s one of the best ways to unwind. What if we told you that you could cleanse your skin, exfoliate, moisturize, and indulge in some aromatherapy, while soaking up the goodness of a warm bath? It’s true, you can! All you have to do is choose the products that best suit your needs.
Cleansers, Shower Gels, or Body Wash: The cleanser or soap you use should be well-suited for your skin-type. The two broad varieties are gel cleansers and cream cleansers. If you’re someone with oily skin, a foaming shower gel is the right type of cleanser for you. Those with oily skin need a product that keeps the skin from become greasy. However, excessive cleansing can strip your skin of that essential amount of oil needed to keep it supple and hydrated. So, ensure that you do not use harsh products, or cleanse more often than necessary. Instead, use a product that’s designed for your skin-type, and cleanse twice a day. A cream body wash is best suited for those with dry skin. These body washes are typically soap-free and have moisturizing properties than endue the skin with additional moisturise, making it supple, and keeping it from becoming brittle or flaky. Those with dry skin should ideally follow this up with body butter, lotion, or cream designed for dry skin.
Body Scrubs: These act as great exfoliants and should be used a couple of times a week, in place of your regular cleanser. Alternatively, you could use an exfoliating shower gel or body wash on a daily basis. While choosing body scrubs and exfoliants as well, pick something that suits your skin. People with dry or sensitive skin should avoid using harsh scrubs, and should also avoid exfoliating more than once a week.
Bath Salts: If you’re going to be soaking in a tub, adding bath salts is a great way to make your bath healthier. Bath salts help ease muscle tension, soothe ragged nerves, ease arthritis, and fight cellulite. The benefits also include reducing soreness or inflammation of the skin, reducing rashes, and making skin smooth and supple.
Bath Oils: Bath oils are a great way to give your skin a moisture boost- add a couple of drops to your bath or massage it onto your skin before a shower. Different essential oils have different benefits. Chamomile, patchouli, and rosemary oil are great for relaxing and unwinding, while oils such as peppermint and tea-tree oil have an energizing effect. Bath oils usually contain a mix of essential oils; pick the ones that you like best. They’re also a great way to perk up dull or lifeless skin.
